Overview
Features
The TS-1635AX is powered by a Marvell® ARMADA® 8040 ARMv8 Cortex-A72 64-bit quad-core 1.6 GHz processor that provides tremendous computing power and is capable of running a range of applications to help businesses grow as their data increases. The TS-1635AX features twelve 3.5-inch drive bays, four 2.5-inch drive bays and two M.2 SATA slots for building a high-capacity and high-performance storage solution with optimal cost efficiency. The TS-1635AX is also equipped with two 10GbE SFP+ ports and two gigabit ports, providing high-speed connectivity and versatile networking possibilities. The TS-1635AX also allows hardware expansion with two PCI Express (PCIe) 3.0 slots, enabling more functionality by adding a QM2 M.2 SSD/10GbE card, QXP-W6-AX200/ QWA-AC2600 wireless network card and/or USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps) card. The TS-1635AX offers high-capacity storage potential, high processing power, and high versatility for expansion, which all contribute to a next-gen storage system at a lowered total cost of ownership (TCO).
1. The two built-in 10GbE SFP+ ports empower mission-critical applications such as databases and large data transfer/storage.
2. Install SSDs with four 2.5-inch drive bays and two M.2 SATA (2280 form factor) slots for enabling Qtier to boost performances.
3. The two PCIe 3.0 slots (x2 and x1) can be used to install additional QM2 cards, network cards, and USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps) cards to expand NAS functionality.
4. Snapshots add an extra layer of protection to your disaster recovery plans, giving you the flexibility to create and revert snapshots locally and/or remotely.
5. The TS-1635AX supports containers (LXC and Docker®) and Linux command-line interface (CLI) virtual machines (VMs) for deploying diversified virtualization applications.
6. The TS-1635AX can be used with QNAP’s VJBOD technology to expand the capacity of other NAS. The capacity of the TS-1635AX can also be expanded by using QNAP expansion enclosures.
Boost performance with SSDs and Qtier
The TS-1635AX comes with four dedicated 2.5-inch drives bays and two M.2 SATA (2280 form factor) slots for installing SSDs*. With SSDs, you can enable the QNAP-exclusive Qtier 2.0, which offers both automatic tiered storage and cache-like mechanisms for both volumes and iSCSI LUNs. This allows the TS-1635AX to be further accelerated to meet the performance requirements of demanding applications and scenarios such as virtualization and 10GbE transmission.

The QM2 expansion card redefines NAS functionality
QNAP’s QM2 is a series of PCIe expansion cards that features dual M.2 SSD slots and/or 10GbE connectivity*. This allows users to easily set up SSD caching or Qtier to optimize NAS performance. 10GbE-compatible QM2 cards can also future proof the TS-1635AX for use with 10GBASE-T networks. Equipped with a dedicated cooling module, the QM2 can maintain its high performance even when tasked with the highest workloads.

Build an affordable Fibre Channel SAN environment
Common Fibre Channel SAN (Storage Area Networks) devices are often expensive. Now you have more budge-friendly options to easily add your NAS to a SAN environment. Once a Marvell® Fibre Channel card (Marvell QLogic 2500 series 8Gb/s) has been installed in the TS-1635AX, you can set a Fibre Channel Target using the iSCSI & Fibre Channel app, and leverage the many benefits from QNAP NAS including snapshot protection, Qtier™ tiering storage, SSD cache acceleration and more. In addition, the LUN Masking and Port Binding features provide an additional layer of security for your data.
Learn More: QNAP NAS supports Fibre Channel SAN
Convenient file exchange with cross-platform file sharing and Qsync
The TS-1635AX supports SMB/CIFS, NFS, and AFP protocols for file sharing across Windows, Mac, Linux/UNIX networks. Data can be centrally stored and protected by rigid security measures provided by the TS-1635AX. The Windows AD and LDAP services enable system administrators to configure user permissions by using an existing Windows AD server, LDAP server or built-in LDAP service. To sync data across devices, including mobile devices, simply install Qsync Central on the NAS and Qsync clients on other devices to enjoy a fast, private, secure and real-time file sync service.
Learn More: Cross-platform file sharing, Qsync
Secure your data with snapshots and Hybrid Backup Sync
A complete disaster recovery plan requires multiple layers of data protection and backups. The TS-1635AX can use snapshots to record the state of files and modifications to them at the block level, so you can quickly revert to previous versions should an accident (such as deletion or malware attack) occur. For added data security, the Hybrid Backup Sync app can help back up, restore and sync files to/from local external devices, remote NAS and public cloud services.
